HOLLOW OSCILLATING DISC PUMPS 3P:

The POMPE 3P® hollow oscillating disc pumps represent excellence in the rotary positive displacement pump scene, thanks to a proven, versatile and reliable technology that is ideal for liquids of different viscosities and containing suspended solid particles.

A history of experience and innovation

3P Prinz has acquired the 3P Pumps brand and inherited the know-how of two historic Italian companies, Officine Meccaniche Pera and Pompe 3P, which have been active in the field since 1952. This important industrial legacy has allowed 3P Prinz to transfer deep technical knowledge, expertise gained through decades of field applications, and a unique technological heritage in the hollow disc positive displacement pump industry.

Principle of operation

The oscillating hollow disc with its oscillating motion adhering to the inner surface of the pump body, creates a vacuum by sucking fluid into the pump, at the same time it pushes the fluid already in the pump into the discharge.

The heart of the pump is the rotating and oscillating hollow disc, which adheres to the inner wall of the pump body. Its movement generates a vacuum in the suction that draws fluid back into the chamber, while simultaneously the thrust in the discharge ensures the continuity of flow.

– The special internal design of the pump is intended to recover wear and thermal expansion, thus allowing solids to pass through. For this reason, 3P hollow disk pumps are designed to pump low, medium, high and very high viscosity liquids, even in the presence of small amounts of suspended solid particles.
– Rotary Hollow Disc Pumps 3P have excellent self-priming properties in the absence of liquid inside the pump and without auxiliary devices.
– Taking advantage of the low operating speed, hollow disk pumps are particularly suitable for handling sensitive and highly viscous fluids. In addition, the lower speed results in less wear, high reliability and long service life.
– Due to its reverse rotation operation, it can also be used for emptying downstream pipes or for loading and unloading tanks. For this reason, it is not necessary to use another pump or reverse the ports. Hollow disk pumps guarantee the same performance in both directions of operation and are perfectly reversible.

Other advantages of using the 3P hollow disk pump are:
– Low noise and low vibration due to the low operating speed
– Constant average flow rate regardless of viscosity variations (medium to high and very high), up to 200,000 cSt. This makes hollow disk pumps versatile and suitable in numerous applications in the same plants.
– Wide range in process conditions:
Flow rates up to 250 m3/h (1100 GPM), Temperatures up to 280 °C (536 °F), Pressures up to 10 bar (145 PSI)
– Compact design and dimensions that make for easy access for maintenance

Choosing the right material is a complex process that requires careful analysis of several factors. It is critical to consider the physical, mechanical, chemical and technological properties of the material, which is why 3P Prinz brings 70 years of experience in the market to the table to ensure a product of greater long-term reliability. Reliability refers to
its ability to perform the required functions without failure for a specific period of time and under specific operating conditions.

Reliability is a crucial factor in a pump’s safety, efficiency, and durability, reducing maintenance costs and improving productivity.

In practice, the reliability of a machine is a key aspect to be considered in design, production, operation, and maintenance in order to ensure its proper operation and longevity. 3P Prinz is committed to and invests resources in quality

construction of products in accordance with ISO9001, to which the company is certified, to the point of making the motto “Quality is our priority” its own.

An important aspect of ensuring the best quality for the customer is to carry out internal testing similar to the pump’s process operating conditions. 3P with the use of multiple test circuits designed for various process conditions and thanks to restrictive internal procedures is thus able to test each pump in detail ensuring maximum reliability.

Case Study:
For a particular application where the customer needed to pump a particularly aggressive fluid (98% sulfuric acid H₂SO₄), 3P designed a highly engineered product thus creating a solution to ensure proper operation and have maximum reliability while minimizing maintenance.

For this reason, all metal parts wetted by the fluid were fabricated from Hastelloy C-22 while for mechanical seals thanks to the partnership with our suppliers, elastomer compounds with high corrosion resistance were selected, thus limiting fluid leakage to a minimum.
